Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination

The Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE) is required by every Canadian province except Quebec . It is a multiple choice examination that tests the knowledge, its application and critical thinking abilities required to competently practise dietetics in Canada.

Qualifying for the Exam
 
To qualify for the exam, you must apply to be a member of the College, meet all the requirements for membership, and receive confirmation that you are eligible to write the exam. An applicant has four years or three opportunities, whichever comes first, to pass the exam. The first attempt must be made within one year of becoming eligible to write it.
  • An applicant who fails the exam on the first attempt may write it a second time.
  • After a second failure, the applicant is required to complete academic and practical upgrading as directed by the College before making a third attempt.
  • An applicant who fails on the third attempt is not eligible to continue in the examination process without further education and training and a new application to the College.
 
Language for Exam
Applicants can choose to write the CDRE in English or in French.  

 
Exam Dates

The exam is offered in 9 provinces twice a year in May and November. In Ontario, the exam is administered in the city of Toronto. Applicants may request an alternative exam location in Ontario. Requests must be made in writing when applying for registration with the College. The city of Ottawa is a common alternative site in Ontario.

Exam Fee - $400
Make your payment online by credit card or send a certified cheque or money order.

Convenient Online Payment

  • Login to the Members Home Page using your Registration Number and Password.
  • Go to Events>Register for CDRE
  • Use your VISA or MasterCard to pay the $400 online.

Mail-in certified cheque or money order:

  • Click here to download the CDRE registration form.
  • Check the correct box: certified cheque or money order.
  • Mail your certified cheque or money order for $400 along with the form to the College.

Once your fee is paid in full, you will receive an exam confirmation letter with the complete details about the exam and a copy of the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination Preparation Guide to help you prepare for the examination.
