STRATEGIC PLANNING & GOALS

Strategic Ends/Goals & Strategies 2007-2010

End/Goal 1: Support the CDO membership
  • Support RDs to provide safe, ethical and competent services to people in Ontario.
  • CDO support to RDs will be specific and relevant to all areas of dietetic practice (AADPs).
Objectives
  • making the QA program more relevant to all areas of practice (AAOP);
  • identifying and addressing barriers to quality dietetic services;
  • connecting RDs to the College and to each other;
  • developing tools and products to increase and apply knowledge.
Sub-ends: Strategies
  1. Strengthen CDO tools and programs to be more relevant to RDs in all areas of practice.
  2. Define for members quality practice with reference to enablers and barriers
  3. In Partnership, develop and monitor tools that support collaborative practice.
  4. Develop communication strategies to engage RDs in CDO activities.

End/Goal 2: Support the public's access to the services of Registered Dietitians

Supporting public access to RDs is distinct from promoting the services of RDs to the public with the end/goal of increasing or protecting RD jobs, status or earning potential (professional turf). The articulation of the end/goal and strategies must be rooted in the public protection/public interest mandate of the College and not duplicate without legitimate regulatory reason the efforts of the professional association, DC.

Objectives
  • increasing the supply of RDs in Ontario
  • better recognition of RDs as the regulated experts in nutrition.
Sub-ends: Strategies
  1. Support an increase in the supply of RDs in Ontario.
  2. Develop a definition of the scope of practice/role of RDs in hospital settings in a way that highlights their value-added and capacity to work with medical directives and delegation and work collaboratively with team of professionals (cross-reference with end/goal #1)
  3. Develop and begin execution of a communication strategy to educate the public about value-added services from RDs
  4. Continue current public education activities: support for FHRCO Public Education Strategy, website information and distribution of RD posters, card and pamphlet.
  5. Protect and promote the "dietitian" title.
  6. Provide service to link the public with available RDs.

End/Goal 3: Develop a CDO Regulatory Standards Framework

Objectives
CDO has a framework that: defines:
  • “regulatory standard”,
  • areas for regulatory standards,
  • priorities for standards development,
  • process for standards development and
  • template for presentation of standards.

End/Goal 4: Ensure Effective Compliance with CDO Standards

Objectives
  • RDs are competent and comply with policies, regulations, laws, standards, and guidelines
  • RDs, the public, and relevant government bodies feel that CDO proceedings are transparent, fair and effective
  • Public accesses services of CDO and RDs
Results-based accountability Framework adopted
A Results-based Management and Accountability Framework (RMAF) was adopted by the College for internal and external accountability, and program management. Council approved the RMAF Overall Performance Measures for the evaluation of College strategic goals which included indicators of success, measurement methods and frequency of evaluations.
