Online Verification of RD Registration Status
A good time to verify the currency of an RD's membership is in December. Payment of fees is due on October 15th of every year. A member who has not completed their renewal before the deadline is given 30 days notice. If their renewal is not completed within 30 days of the late notice, their membership is suspended and the fact of their suspension is noted on the Public Register of Dietitians. Only members in good standing will be listed in December.
The Register of Dietitians will always also indicate whether the Registered Dietitian has had a finding of professional misconduct and whether there are any terms, conditions or limitations on his or her certificate of registration.
What happens when a member is suspended or revoked?
When members are suspended or revoked:
- a notice of the suspension or revocation appears in Résumé, the College’s newsletter & appears indefinitely on the Public Register of Dietitians;
- the College informs the member’s last employer on record that the member has been suspended or revoked and is no longer in good standing with the College.
- The fact that a member was suspended appears indefinitely on a member’s record. Verify a Registered Dietitian's status.
Use of Title
Under the Dietetics Act, a member who is suspended or revoked no longer holds a Certificate of Registration and is prohibited from using the title "dietitian", a variation or abbreviation or an equivalent in another language and is prohibited from holding himself or herself out as a person who is qualified to practice in Ontario as a dietitian or in a specialty of dietetics.
