RD Standards & Ethics

It is very important for employers to have a good understanding of the laws and regulations that affect dietetic practice. The ethics and standards of the dietetic profession in Ontario are set out in a variety of documents. These include the Professional Standards for Dietitians in Canada, CDO regulations made under the Dietetic Act and the Regulated Health Professions Act, and other relevant legislation.  Together, they set a level of practice that ensures patient safety.

Dietitians are employed in a variety of workplace settings, some of which have rules and regulations that provide additional practice and professional obligations. The dietitian has a responsibility to these additional workplace rules as long as the obligations of the facility are not contrary to provincial and federal laws, dietetic regulations, ethics and standards.
