



Quality Assurance Program
Section 80.1 of the Regulated Health Professions Act states:
"a quality assurance program prescribed under section 80 shall include,
- continuing education or professional development designed to,
- promote continuing competence and continuing quality improvement among the members,
- address changes in practice environments, and
- incorporate standards of practice, advances in technology, changes made to entry to practice competencies and other relevant issues in the discretion of the Council;
- self, peer and practice assessments; and
- a mechanism for the College to monitor members' participation in, and compliance with, the quality assurance program."
Who Participates in the Program?
All members of the College, regardless of their employment status or area of practice and including members practising and/or residing out-of-province, are required to participate in the Quality Assurance Program.
Program Components
The College of Dietitians of Ontario supports RDs in enhancing their competence to deliver safe, ethical and competent nutrition services through the Quality Assurance Program components.
- Self-Assessment and Professional Development, accomplished through the Self-Directed Learning (SDL) Tool and the Jurisprudence Knowledge & Assessment Tool (JKAT);
- Practice Assessment and Enhancement
Through participation in the QA program, the College:
- Assists members to improve their individual competence;
- Identifies members demonstrating a need for improvement in competence and provide support for enhancement;
- Evaluates dietitians' participation in the Quality Assurance Program;
- Identifies the issues affecting the practice of dietetics and quality of service; and
- Evaluates the impact of Quality Assurance Program to ensure that it remains effective.
